Becws Melys sits quietly along Slate Quay in Caernarfon, offering a calm spot that locals seem to appreciate for its relaxed, modern vibe. It's the kind of café where conversations unfold easily over well-crafted mugs of coffee, with cappuccinos consistently noted for their quality. The interior is unhurried and peaceful, making it a good choice for a morning catch-up or a midday break away from busier parts of town.

The menu leans into hearty, approachable fare with a clear nod to Welsh tradition and contemporary twists. A full Welsh breakfast—Brecwast Cymru—is a popular pick, alongside homemade scotch eggs and classic Welsh rarebit served with fresh salad and coleslaw. For those seeking something more casual or indulgent, the barbecue pulled pork cheeseburger with chips or loaded kimchi fries help make this café feel versatile. On cooler days, the soup of the day paired with bread offers comforting simplicity.

Visitors often drop in for breakfast or lunch, though the selection of cakes and sweets—ranging from pavlova to Biscoff French toast—means Becws Melys works well as a sweet stop or afternoon treat. The café’s atmosphere tends to stay mellow and quiet, making it a nice choice for anyone wanting to settle in with a book or work quietly. Service tends to be brisk and friendly, creating a welcoming experience without fuss.

This spot suits visitors looking for straightforward, well-made food in a low-key setting — locals who want a break from the tourist bustle often appreciate it. It's best to visit mid-morning or early afternoon on weekdays if you want a bit of calm, though weekends can be busier with families and groups arriving for relaxed brunch or light lunches.

Overall, Becws Melys fits neatly into the Slate Quay area’s quietly independent scene, serving familiar flavors with care and a low-pressure atmosphere that encourages lingering just a little longer over coffee or a plate of comforting food.

Excellent. Quiet, modern atmosphere and fantastic freshly made food. Quick and friendly service. I had the bbq chicken bagel which was full of chicken (pieces, not slices), and just the right amount of cheese and bbq sauce. I also had a superb roulade of raspberries and white chocolate, with all the flavours perfectly balanced. My husband really enjoyed his food too, and also said that the coffee was very good. Highly recommended.

We had the teriyaki loaded chips and the Cubanos Bagel and a warmed scotch egg. Tasted so good and came out pretty quickly! Staff very friendly and helpful.

Had soup of the day (potato and leek) and also had the Welsh rarebit. Both diagnosed were absolutely delicious. It's a cute little café and I'd recommend anyone to go have food there!

Not fully waited, but tables set, not difficult to order, perfect food brought to you and table water on hand. Recommend booking in advance if coming by steam train.

If you need a quit get-away breakfast spot: away from busy high street and close to local attraction - this is it! (Also, we may been lucky to visit it on thr quiet day, regardless, it was lush!) Simply wonderful breakfast (and luch options). They have it all: full English, bagels, cakes and even granola bowls (to other places seem to lack). Delicious coffee. Fantastic and quick service. We popped in for breakfast and it was the perfect start of the day. Don't forget to order at the bar/till area. Enjoy!
